Two of the scientific articles produced within this project, one on the global range expansion of a cryptic seaweed complex and another on building up biogeography, were distinguished among the respective journal’s top downloaded recent papers. According to the publishing company (Wiley), this means that “Amongst articles published between January 2017 and December 2018, your paper[s] received some of the most downloads in the 12 months following online publication. Your work generated immediate impact and visibility, contributing significantly to the advancement of your field.“

New short article accepted
A short note on the workshop we participated in this Summer was just accepted for publication in the Spanish scientific journal Ecosistemas, which is indexed by e.g. SCOPUS and Web of Science and has an impact factor. Check our Scientific articles page for the full reference and stay tuned for the next volume of the journal, where this article should appear.
PLoS ONE article online!
Our previously accepted article on the distribution, trends and bibliometrics of Portuguese terrestrial carnivore mammals, which was part of Joana Bencatel’s MSc thesis (presented in 2016) and was the base of the Atlas of Mammals in Portugal, is now published on the PLoS ONE website (see our publications page for the bilbiographic reference). This work includes not only the recorded distributions of these species (by the date of completion of the article), but also an analysis of their trends over time, their associated bibliometrics and the type of studies that have focused on each species. Although it does not include species occurrence data obtained after 2016 (due to the time these articles usually spend in the review process and the complexity of the associated analysis), this is an important document on how the study of carnivores in Portugal has evolved in the past, and on what aspects need further work in the future. More up-to-date distribution data are being collected in the Atlas of Mammals in Portugal.

Our recently accepted article presenting and explaining the gDefrag package has just been made available online at the Ecological Modelling website. You can contact any of the authors (e.g. through ResearchGate) for a free private copy!
New MSc thesis handed in!
J. Lenin Lara-Galván, a MSc student in Mexico who did a 4-month research stay at Évora under the supervision of the project PI, has just handed in his master’s thesis on the distribution and conservation of rattlesnakes in the state of Zacatecas. This study, which involved field work and data gathering, species distribution models, and then more field work to validate and make use of these models, has so far produced several communications at scientific meetings and will also generate two peer-reviewed articles, one of which is about to be submitted. Good luck for Lenin’s thesis defense!

Now it’s PLoS ONE that has accepted our paper on research trends and geographical distribution of Portuguese carnivore mammals! This is one of the articles resulting from Joana Bencatel’s MSc Thesis, and it should soon become available in open access.

This year’s Volume II of scientific and dissemination journal Lucanus includes an article we wrote about the Atlas of Mammals in Portugal, which was also an output of this project. The journal will soon be available online, and our article (in Portuguese) is already avaliable here in PDF.
